The ballet and Little Droid

La Bayadère

I’m so proud of my little droid !!!

So tonight I went out to see my first real Parisian ballet. Unforgettable ! it was truly amazing, and it’s one of my dreams coming true, honestly. What’s the link with my little droid? Well, I didn’t do my homework before going to the ballet so … I didn’t know anything about the story told in the ballet. oops. At the beginning even if the ballet was magnificent, it was difficult to understand, I didn’t have a clue about what the story was about. A ballet is about people dancing and never speaking, so it’s really impossible to get who is who and what is what. But ….

….no worries! I had Little Droid with me, he could help. So, woke him up from my pocket and I searched for the ballet “La Bayadère” on google. I clicked on the first link and got a full article explaining the story of the ballet with a description of Acts I, II, III and IV. Fantastic! So I was reading a bit of the article during the intermission and at the same time I was discretely telling the story to my friend. To be honest I was a little embarrassed to not know the story in a such fancy place but it was no big deal, I had the information right under my eyes.

While I was telling the story to my friend, I was surprised to realize that the people around didn’t know it either. So from telling the story to my friend, I ended telling the story to everyone around too and they were so amazed at the enlightened screen of Little Droid, that I finally handed it to them so that they can read and experience it. They were asking me “what is it?”, “what website did you go to?”, “Is it an iPod?”. Wow. If Little Droid had feelings, it would go like “Hehe, who’s the star now?”.

Anyway, I didn’t know what to say. I just said, “No it’s a phone”. And then I read the inscription “HTC” but people just kept looking at me waiting for a killer name. Because, what does HTC mean? I don’t know. And people don’t want to know. Sure it sounds geeky, and doesn’t compete with the name iPhone, but I still love it, I called it Little Droid. I wish I could say “No it’s a Droid”, but what is a Droid? Again, names, words… when it comes to personal use, it can have some importance, even if in this case it’s not really important.

It’s my first useful experience with a smartphone. So cool. There is no need anymore to flaunt about your knowledge, about things that you’ve read before in some encyclopedia, or in some fancy heavy book. No, now you get the same knowledge in real time, and there is no need to hide because you don’t know, simply because in a second you can know. Some might see this as a decay of culture because you don’t learn things anymore in the same way as before. But I see this as progress. Instead of not knowing because you don’t have the same access to the information as privileged ones, you can know and that makes all the difference. Knowing will always be better than not knowing, the means you use to know, whether it is by reading a heavy book, or by reading an online article is not really important.

I love my little droid, I find it more and more useful. I love the Internet, it breaks all the barriers. I will go now dream of this incredible ballet, not the last I see for sure !
