Trip to Cologne: using the Internet on holidays

The real point of the Internet is to explore the unknown anytime and everywhere

Ich liebe Köln!

I went on holidays to Cologne a few weeks ago. It was great and I realized how dependent we have become on the Internet and how it’s becoming a necessity, even during holidays.

A few years ago we would have planned the trip searching what exactly to see and do there before leaving. Today, we go on holiday in the mindset that we can search for what to do and see once we are there because we count on the Internet to guide us. We rely on the Internet because we are used to have it at home, in the pocket, everywhere. The Internet avoids us the planning and allows us to live more spontaneously in a “decide as you go” mode. When I say the Internet here, I refer to mobile Internet on the smartphone, the most convenient use on holidays. Also I mainly refer to Google’s services and I’m going to describe in this post how very useful and pleasant these were for us during the holidays. Using the mobile Internet abroad made me realize the real point of the Internet: explore the unknown.

“I really hate talking” : how Technology makes it OK

“I really hate talking” : this was my google search query of the day.

There is something I like to do…when a thought pops up in my head I like typing it in google and see if other people had the same thought too. I find it really amusing that sometimes the exact sentence I thought of, even as weird as it is, with the same combination of words appears in google. There is something reassuring to it. “Ohh google thinks like me ….. :)”. Other times when there is no result at all, it’s also flattering. “Hehe my thoughts are so unique … :)”. Today when I typed “I really hate talking” in google, it was really to measure how many people out there didn’t like talking either, I was certainly hoping to be reassured on some level…by the Internet.

My phone the Savior of awkward moments of existence

Have you ever been in that situation where there is that one person in the whole universe that you absolutely don’t want to see ever again and yet, that is THE person that you randomly meet on your way home? Well, that’s exactly what happened to me today. Fortunately my phone saved me.

Before anything about this story, I know we are supposed to be strong and grown ups, and everything officially “wise” to say but I prefer to be honest with myself : there are things in life I really don’t like, and don’t accept and that person is someone I really don’t like ! So my life is better if I don’t see her.

The ballet and Little Droid

La Bayadère

La Bayadère

I’m so proud of my little droid !!!

So tonight I went out to see my first real Parisian ballet. Unforgettable ! it was truly amazing, and it’s one of my dreams coming true, honestly. What’s the link with my little droid? Well, I didn’t do my homework before going to the ballet so … I didn’t know anything about the story told in the ballet. oops. At the beginning even if the ballet was magnificent, it was difficult to understand, I didn’t have a clue about what the story was about. A ballet is about people dancing and never speaking, so it’s really impossible to get who is who and what is what. But ….
